SmartX has launched CloudTower 2.0, a centralized management platform for multiple data center clusters. CloudTower is a crucial component of SmartX’s HCI product portfolio as it provides visibility and simple management across all HCI clusters. CloudTower 2.0 comes with improved efficiency, security, and user experience for operations and maintenance with new features such as cross-cluster VM migration, content library, VM user view, access control, security settings, and an optimized interface.
The community edition of CloudTower also comes with the enhanced user interface and VM user view as part of the SmartX HCI Kit Community Edition. This feature allows for the unified management of multiple clusters as well as the sharing of virtual machine templates and ISO images across clusters. Users can create virtual machine templates and upload ISO images in one cluster and access them all from any other CloudTower-managed cluster, reducing repetitive tasks.

Cross-Cluster VM Migration enables VM migration across clusters via hot, cold, and staged migration. Users can migrate powered-on VMs without disrupting services with hot migration. It necessitates a network that connects clusters directly. Users can migrate powered-off VMs using cold migration. Data can be transmitted via CloudTower without the need for a directly connected network. Staged migration enables users to migrate all data without jeopardizing the availability of VMs.
With the help of VM user view, IT administrators can easily distribute VMs to users while enabling independent VM use and management. Users could manage VM downtime directly through CloudTower and access clients’ operational systems via the VNC panel.
Access Control and Security Settings will enable users to strengthen O&M security by restricting access and login to CloudTower via the Access Restriction, Session Timeout, Password Security, and Custom Role settings.
